Show Notes

Our culture places great emphasis on rugged individualism.  Our heroes and role models are risk takers who face overwhelming odds and obstacles but, in the end, through grit and determination come out on top.  They prevail!  (with considerable help from those working  behind the scenes)

But behind every great and lasting accomplishment is a group of individuals who collaborate and create.  They identify a host of challenges and obstacles and use their creative, collaborative genius to craft solutions to some of our most vexing problems. Like sharing models and best practices for affordable, sustainable and accessible housing to meet the needs of our I/DD community.  While at the same time providing direction and support for individuals and community organizations to create new opportunities for disabled individuals to have a voice and a choice in where and with whom they wish to live.

Today's episode is about collaborative heroes.  We speak with Desiree Kameka Galloway, the Director of the Autism Housing Network and the National Coordinator for the Coalition for Community Choice.  Desiree and the folks she work with are making the world a better place for people with disabilities by featuring diverse options to fit individual needs and encouraging collaboration on the local, regional and national scene to grow capacity for those waiting for a home of their own.
